This weeks Old Testament reading, from the tradition of Christian, Muslims and Jews, is the twenty-seventh reading called Tazria (תזריע), which means “she conceived.” Childbirth remind us that the Force of Creation is within each of us and we are connected and ONE with the Divine.   1. This text reveals that marriage is not just to temper sexual desires, but that real spiritual strength is found in the sacrament. It has a noble purpose – which is to help, support, and mutually uphold one another into old age. This reading encourages couples to foster a shared prayer life, and reveals the blessings that flow from it.

And so as we remind ourselves, through ascetical efforts and the lessons taught to us in our liturgical services, that we are far from our true homeland?as we force ourselves not to settle down, not to settle into the Babylon of this world?it is the pre?eminent song of exile from the Old Testament that sets the theme for us, for our long and difficult pilgrimage back home.
